History: Beronia Rioja was founded in 1973 in Ollauri by a group of friends passionate about wine and food. Named after the ancient Berones tribe, early settlers of Rioja, the winery built its reputation on high-quality Tempranillo wines. It later became part of González Byass, expanding internationally while maintaining a focus on tradition, sustainability, and its distinctive barrel-aging style.
Regional information: Beronia Rioja is located in Spain's Rioja Alta, one of the region's most prestigious subzones. The area benefits from a mix of Atlantic and continental climates, with moderate rainfall and temperature variation that supports balanced ripening. Soils are mainly clay-limestone, ideal for Tempranillo, producing structured wines with freshness, depth, and ageing potential characteristic of Rioja wines.
Vinification: Beronia Reserva is crafted from carefully selected grapes, mainly Tempranillo, from old vineyards. Following cold pre-fermentation maceration, fermentation occurs at 26-28°C with gentle pump-overs to enhance colour and aromas. The wine is aged for 18 months in French and American oak, including second-fill French barrels, promoting slow, balanced development. It is then bottle-aged for at least 18 months before release.
