Established in 1776, Louis Roederer is one of the few, great Champagne houses which remains family owned. Their astonishing collection of prime vineyard sites offers the house ultimate control of quality from grape to glass.
By 1876, the house had achieved such a reputation for quality that Tsar Alexandre II requested they make him an exclusive cuvée.
The result was Cristal, the first Cuvée de Prestige. It was not until 1974 that Cristal Rosé was first produced, sourced from the best Pinot Noir plots in the Roederer vineyard, and pressed gently to reveal a salmon pink colour, a fresh fruit bouquet and a profoundly long finish. Cristal Rosé is supremely fragile and difficult to produce, due to the unpredictable evolution of the pink colour from the time of bottling to marketing some six or seven years later. At the House of Louis Roederer, it is made according to the traditional skin-contact method by which the Pinot Noir grapes remain in contact with the must until fermentation begins. Only grapes fulfilling the twofold condition of perfect soundness and a certain degree of over-ripeness are selected to produce this wine of exceptional quality.
