History: Piccini was founded back in 1882 by Angiolio Piccini who started with just 7 hectares. Piccini now has four separate estates in its portfolio and ranks as one of the most recognisable Tuscan brands worldwide with fourth generation Mario and Martina Piccini at the helm.
Regional information: Located in the province of Siena, Tuscany, Montalcino is a stunning wine region of Italy. Montalcino is also a town, which is one of six spectacular medieval hill towns of Tuscany. In addition, this hilltop town is considered the motherland of Tuscany's fullest, richest, and long-aging wine Brunello di Montalcino.
Vinification: The grapes are hand harvested in early October from 15-30 year old vines in a limestone based soil. Once they are destemmed and crushed, fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats for 10-12 days. During the ageing period, the freshly fermented wine matures and slowly absorbs aromas and fragrances from the wood of the oak barrels they remain in for at least 2 years. It then rests for another 6 months in bottles. Before bottling, the wine is stored at a controlled temperature.
